Today's Tips

Professional tipster Ben Merritt gives his thoughts on today's racing...

2.20 Kempton - CAVALO NERO 10/3 (NAP)

With conditions most predictable on the all weather, I'm settling with CAVALO NERO as my best chance of a winner on the day. He's been hit with a 5lb rise for his win last time out and, although this is a much deeper race, that looks a very lenient penalty by the handicapper. Held up last in a slow run race, he scythed through the field and won as easy as he liked, under no more than hands and heels riding. A wide draw here isn't ideal, but as a hold up horse that's probably less of an issue than it would be, if he were usually ridden handy. Kaiya Fraser, who won on him last time has been booked and there ought to be a strong pace in the race too. The horse he beat, with ease, last time out won a good race at Ascot at 4.15 on Friday afternoon.

3.40 Haydock - KIND OF BLUE 10/3 (Next Best)

โ€ŒKIND OF BLUE is a proven Group 1 winner, but simply hasn't had his ground in recent years. However, he returns to the track from a small break in rude health at home and the recent rain might have just been music to the ears of James Fanshawe and connections. 2nd in this race last year, giving weight to the 1st and 3rd, the form of the race is strong too. The only time he's previously encountered soft ground, he won the Champions Day Sprint at Ascot, so he has the stamina required to see this out on testing ground.
