Professional tipster Ben Merritt gives his thoughts on today's racing...
1.15 Aintree - JAVERT ALLEN 4/1 (Next Best)
Kadastral heads this market and will, most likely, be the best horse to come out of this race. However, he's making his chase debut here in a race that will be frantically run and he'll have to be very sharp first time out to get around here without being drawn into a novicey mistake. I tipped JAVERT ALLEN on seasonal debut over this C&D last time year, because I felt he was an exceptionally well handicapped horse who looked like he'd get a soft lead. However, he was taken on for the lead by Glengouly that day and the pair set the race up for those held up off it. Eventually finishing 4th, the 3 in front of him turned out to be huge improvers and finished their seasons on marks a lot higher than which they started. Excuses can be made for the rest of his starts, the same thing happened at Newbury when he done very well to finish 2nd. He was then stepped up to 2m4f on two more starts, but he didn't stay, before finishing his season in the Red Rum over C&D. That was a car crash from the start in first time headgear as he missed the break and was never in the race thereafter. He needs to be out in front and, provided he's not taken on or he's tracking a leader, he's the best and most elaborate jumper in this field. His speed over fences is a huge asset and around this speed favouring track, he should be seen to best effect. The yard have begun the season well and, considering I felt he was well handicapped last year rated 127, he has to be a bet off 124.

3.35 Aintree - BOOMBAWN 11/4 (NAP)
BOOMBAWN had been laid out for the Old Roan over this C&D last weekend, but with the meeting abandoned those plans were scuppered. However, this looks a little easier and with an extra weeks fitness, he should be all the more ready. He's had a prep run, which he hadn't had last year when an eye catching 4th in the Old Roan last year, rated 153. That run came when never out of hands and heels riding and sent off 50/1 in a Class 1 hurdle. He is without a win for some time, but he's down to a mark of 143 here and in one of the weakest chases he's been in for some time, having competed largely in Class 1 races for a while. The cheekpieces are on first time and he's got a huge chance.
