Today's Tips

Professional tipster Ben Merritt gives his thoughts on today's racing...

4.25 Leopardstown - QUDDWAH 3/1 (NAP)

QUDDWAH would be the oldest winner of this race for some time, and giving 5lb in weight to improving 3yr olds wont be easy. However, he's the class horse in the race who isn't far wrong at the weights, after the allowance, and has an brilliant record fresh. When returning from a layoff of 70 days or more, his record reads 11111 and he's done a lot of his competing at this level or Group 1 races, whereas the rest of this field are Group 3 animals at best. James Doyle over to ride for the Crisford yard, who's horses are coming back to form after a quiet spell.

5.10 Chester - THE RESDEV SCHOLAR 9/2 (Next Best)

We backed the RESDEV SCHOLAR last time out, having his first start from a long layoff, when well backed at Musselburgh. Unfortunately, it was clear to see from the gates that he was being ridden for fitness, but he stayed on well over a trip that was on the short side and on ground that may have dried out too much. Having been entered for a race here on Friday, he was immediately withdrawn and moved to this one instead once the decs came out, which makes sense given the extra half furlong. He's well drawn here, at a course he's run well at, and the soft ground will be perfect too. I'm certain he's well handicapped on his form this year and Jo Mason is booked (wasn't on Friday), as well as being at the meeting for just one ride.
