Professional tipster Ben Merritt gives his thoughts on today's racing...
3.35 York - TARRIANCE 15/2 (Next Best)
From the moment TARRIANCE crossed the line on this day last year, connections would have been working back from the Ebor and, based on what we saw at Goodwood, I'd say they're hopeful of a bold show. Since that run, he had been competing in Group Company, until dropping back into a handicap last time out, having his first run for a while and a prep for this. At the furlong pole, with everything being ridden away, this lad was still swinging on the bridle and whilst he didn't win, he wasn't ridden to win either. Colin Keane giving him no more than one tap on the back and a bit of hands and heels riding. Finishing a close 4th, the 2nd (who was in receipt of a stone from the selection) came out and hosed up in a handicap at this meeting on Wednesday too. Carrying 9st 7lb and drawn in a double figure stall is perfect, the yard couldn't be in better form and he must have a massive chance. Willie Mullins runs the fav, a horse that has never run for Willie Mullins, he could be anything, but he's priced up far too short and is only there because people are guessing as to what he is.

5.20 York - RAAMMEE 7/2 (NAP)
RAAMMEE was the last leg of a 930/1 treble for us last month, and I hope he can do us a turn again. He won the John Smiths Cup, with total ease, that day, getting an 8lb rise for it. Things will be a lot harder here, off top weight, but he's been off the track since so has had plenty of time to recover and looked a group horse in a handicap when winning that day. The slower ground is a worry, but he's bred to go on it and it's doing nothing but dry all the time between now and then. Roger Varian has taken an unusually small team to York this meeting, a track he has a brilliant record at, and this is only his 2nd runner (the other went close in listed company. I imagine they've been working back from this since that win.
