Introducing Lenebane

Introducing Lenebane, an attractive and very promising 5-year-old filly, in training with Rebecca Menzies who at the time of writing boasts an impressive 20% strike rate over jumps this season.

Lenebane has run in four maiden hurdles in Ireland and is already proving to be talented and progressive.

Her most recent run saw her finish 2nd – only 1½ lengths behind a very highly thought of filly out of Henry De Bromhead’s yard.

Lenebane is sired by Vadamos and out of the well bred mare, Callmeakhab. Vadamos was a Group 1 winning miler, who now stands for Coolmore. Callmeakhab’s mother, Viola Royale, is the dam of nine winners from 11 runners and 12 foals. These include the two black type horses, Meleagros and St Andrews I.

There is a lot of flat influence from both sides of the family, putting great speed in her pedigree and by the looks of her runs to date, she will be effective on good to soft ground.

Rebecca told us that “she’s obviously got some really decent form in Ireland, she was quite progressive in her races. Most recently she finished second in a hurdle race at Wexford, the winner of which is really really highly thought of out of the Henry de Bromhead yard, so when we found out she was for sale, obviously, we were very keen to get her vetted and get her brought over to England and I think she’ll be really well suited for the races not just in the North of England but elsewhere as well… she’s got a really good future”.

Ross O’Sullivan, who trained her previously said he was disappointed not to keep her as he feels that “she is going to win a stack of races”, adding that he “really couldn’t recommend her any more”.

The highlight of Lenebane’s first season in England was a promising 3rd at Market Rasen. The form of this race has taken a boost since as the winner has gone on to win again.

Lenebane was always going to progress with time and after a good break over the summer, she is back in training at Howe Hills Stables. Rebecca is currently looking through the racing programme for some suitable races. A step up to 2.5 miles a possibility, which was suggested by champion jockey Brian Hughes after her most recent outing.
