Introducing: Henry Box Brown

About Henry Box Brown: Henry Box Brown is a handsome 8-year-old, sired by Getaway and in training with Evan Williams.

Henry Box Brown is a lovely type with impressive paces and a scopey jump. He won an Irish National Hunt Flat Race at Wexford easily and with plenty left in the tank.

Mr D Allen, his winning jockey, reported that he had ‘a powerful engine’.
You wouldn’t describe ‘Henry’ as a typical chestnut. Although strong-willed and fiery, he has shown a great attitude to his work, proving himself to be very honest and willing.

He was purchased by Evan Williams with Old Gold Racing owners in mind. Henry Box Brown has now got three wins and eight placings in the Old Gold Racing silks. He kicked off the 2023 New Year in great style when seeing off a rival by a neck at Uttoxeter, providing his owners with an exciting battle to the finishing post.

Henry made his debut over fences at the backend of last season, which gave the team a nice platform to build upon going forward.

Henry Box Brown didn’t get this season off to the smoothest start when falling on his seasonal return when travelling well. However, what Evan saw of Henry gave him the confidence that he would win again this season. Following some good runs through the summer the decision to step him up in trip was made, which resulted in Henry’s first chase success at Worcester.

Henry went on to WIN again at Leicester in December. Unfortunately, he unseated his rider Ellis on their next start when running well, but he came back to form to place twice at Worcester in July.

This season didn't get off the smoothest start when he unseated Ellis when running a good race. He then refound his form to finish runner-up in two starts at Worcester.

Ellis unfortunately became unseated again when badly hampered by a faller at Worcester. Stepped up in trip at Market Rasen, the result on paper seemed disappointing, however when staying on at the finish in standard Henry style, he proved he stayed the extended trip.

Evan added cheekpieces next time at Worcester over 2m7f where Henry duly obliged, travelling and jumping well to finish 2nd. He remained in this good vein of form to place next time out at Chepstow and Southwell.

Evan is confident that over the longer trip, it wont be long before Henry and Ellis are back in the winners enclosure.
