A Syndicate With A Purpose

This syndicate is designed to raise £35,000 to help veterans get back on their feet. The horse will run in Old Gold Racing silks, sponsored by Walking With The Wounded. Learn more about the fantastic work they do, below.

For many veterans, the transition back to civilian life is relatively smooth, but a significant number experience physical, mental or social challenges that impact their day-to-day lives. It is estimated that two million people require some kind of assistance to reintegrate (around 7% of those returning from duty).

Unfortunately, the necessary structure and support people need when they leave service is not always available for them.

Walking With The Wounded provides wraparound care coordination programmes tailored to the individual needs of ex-service personnel. They stand side-by-side with veterans on their path back to civilian life by delivering face-to-face, bespoke, interconnected services, helping those who have fallen furthest to get back on their feet.

Their trusted, hands-on approach is proven to meet the real needs of those who have served, and their families. 92% of those accessing their care coordination services cited low well-being in at least three areas. Upon receiving support, 88% reported significant well-being improvements. Beneficiaries consistently rate the service they receive (4.7/5) and their caseworker (4.8/5) as excellent.

Walking With The Wounded’s reserves policy and low overheads means that a large portion of donations received go directly into frontline services.

And Old Gold Racing would like to invite you to support the work they do, while raising awareness in the process…

Not only will every share in Rebel Tribesman include a £5.50 donation to Walking With The Wounded; Old Gold Racing will also contribute 25% of its management fees to the cause.

Once the syndicate is filled, we will together have raised £35,000 to help Walking With The Wounded on their mission to make the UK the best place for a veteran to be.

To clarify the impact this syndicate could make: £35,000 is enough money to support 30 veterans into employment, or support 30 veterans through intensive, face-to-face therapy programmes.

Needless to say, the impact goes wider than the veterans themselves, as their friends and families feel a weight lift.

Introducing: Rebel Tribesman

Rebel Tribesman is an Aintree bumper winner who was purchased by Tom Malone and Jamie Snowden for £55,000 at the Goffs UK Spring Sale. Highflyer Bloodstock and Old Gold Racing were actually underbidders on him, so we were delighted when Jamie offered him to us!

Rebel Tribesman made his debut at Garthorpe in April finishing 3rd. Held up throughout he was given an educational ride by jockey Sean O’Connor and was nearest at the finish, only being beaten 2¾ lengths.

He then put that experience to good use when heading to Aintree in May for their Point-To-Point bumper and winning in good style. Under a change of tactics, being ridden more forward, he travelled well throughout and really caught the eye. In the final furlongs he moved into the lead and always looked to be the winner, showing a good turn of foot along with plenty of stamina. He looks a progressive horse who should only improve for heading over obstacles.

Crystal Ocean was a top class flat horse winning a total of eight times, including at Group level aged 3,4 and 5. He retired to stud to stand under the Coolmore banner and he has plenty of exciting prospects to come with Cristal d’Estruva winning his only point-to-point and subsequently selling for £400,000. You Should Know Me has already proven herself to be a top producer with three of her four runners to date winning. Filey Bay has achieved a peak BHA rating of 142 and has been placed at Graded level on multiple occasions.

Jamie Snowden is delighted to train Rebel Tribesman for such a worthy cause, stating that “XXXXXXXXX”.

About The Trainer

Jamie Snowden is a dual Cheltenham Festival winning trainer, who was surrounded by horses from a young age. Following his graduation from Newcastle University he joined the army and became a regular rider in Military races, winning the Grand Military Gold Cup and the Royal Artillery Gold Cup multiple times.

Prior to setting up in his own right in 2008, Jamie joined the Paul Nicholls team as Pupil Assistant before heading to Nicky Henderson’s as Assistant Trainer. Both roles set him up perfectly, as is evident in his results. In 2014, Jamie trained his first Cheltenham Festival winner when Present View won the Novice Handicap chase for Sir Chips Keswick. Other notable owners include HM The Queen and Mrs Fitri Hay.

Share Breakdown

Each £60 share in Rebel Tribesman will include a £5.50 charitable donation in addition to the donation of 25% of Old Gold Racing's management fees. This means that the total amount donated to charity for each share is £10 and once the syndicate is filled, we will have raised £35,000 for Walking With The Wounded.

There are no other partners in this horse, so once 3,500 shares are sold, 100% of the horse will be owned by Old Gold Racing members.

Unlike other syndicates, Old Gold Racing does not charge owners VAT. This means that there is no need to reclaim VAT and that a share represents a greater proportion of the racehorse.

At the end of the syndicate term any unspent funds are returned to owners pro-rata. These funds can be withdrawn or used against the cost of renewing or purchasing a share.

Breeding Details

Crystal Ocean was a top class flat horse for Sir Micheal Stoute. Winning a total of eight times, including at Group level aged 3,4 and 5. He excelled over middle distances being placed in the St Leger where he beat Stradavius and Rekindling, two subsequent Group 1 winners. He himself scored at the top level when winning the Group 1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot, with the likes of Waldgeist, Sea Of Class and Deirdre in behind.

He retired to stud to stand under the Coolmore banner to cover a mix of Flat and National Hunt mares. His first crop of yearlings were well received with a top price of 135,000gns being paid. His jumpers are also beginning to make their mark with Saint Crystal already having won a Listed Hurdle in France. He has plenty of exciting prospects to come with Cristal d’Estruva winning his only point-to-point and subsequently selling for £400,000.

You Should Know Me has already proven herself to be a top producer with three of her four runners to date winning. Filey Bay has achieved a peak BHA rating of 142 and has been placed at Graded level on multiple occasions. Some Detail is also a four-time winner who placed on a further 13 runs.

She is by Oscar who in recent years has been one of the top National Hunt stallions. He has produced the likes of Big Zeb, Lord Windermere and Paisley Park. As a broodmare sire he is responsible for over 1000 winners including Grade 1 winners Hewick, Fury Road and Stay Away Fay.
